Privately-owned Residence Halls

Privately-owned residence halls are residence hall (dormitory) living arrangements that are owned and operated by the private sector. Application procedures and lease agreements are solely the responsibility of the student renter, not the University. The privately-owned halls provide a group living situation conducive to meeting other students and help ease students into college life. Most include a meal plan, Resident Assistants and planned events and activities.

CAUTION: Getting your name on a waiting list or filling out an application does NOT guarantee a room! Only when both parties have signed a written lease/contract is a room guaranteed. The Visitor & Information Programs suggests you wait until your admission to the UW-Madison is confirmed before signing a private housing contract. Whatever housing arrangements you intend to make, VIP strongly recommends that you visit and inspect the housing personally before making binding arrangements and urges you to read lease agreements carefully. People are often disappointed when they rent property over the phone or through the mail.

While the privately-owned residence halls do work cooperatively with UW-Madison, their business practices, policies and procedures are governed by the City of Madison Housing Ordinances, not by the University.

For further information on Privately-owned Residence Halls in Madison, write or call the Halls directly. Applications are not available through the mail from the Visitor & Information Programs. Locator map
